Tumblr Shows More Followers Than I Have

Anonymous asked:

do you have any idea what the invisible followers are ?

Any account that has had its primary blog terminated can still follow you, increasing your follower count. However, because accounts are displayed by Tumblr by their primary blog, and Tumblr hides terminated blogs, you will not see them in your follower list. Even if you did, the blog would be inaccessible.

This is also the cause of some invisible notes on posts - accounts with terminated primary blogs can still like posts, incrementing the number of notes on a post, but will never show up in the list of notes.

please please make One-click Postage and maybe some of the other basics work on Firefox Mobile... between UBlock Origin and a little UI fixing, mobile tumblr could be almost ... g-good... prefetching more posts when scrolling would be so nice too, I don't know if that's something Hermes could do

Tumblr's mobile site is completely different from the desktop site and isn't built in a userstyler/userscripter-friendly manner - its nature is that if we built anything that works for it, even the most minor update to Tumblr could break everything we did.

Until we work out (or are presented) a solution to this (which we will have to, since the desktop dashboard will be getting the same treatment), we can't affect it meaningfully - sorry!

Not sure if this is gonna make sense, but is it possible to make it so that certain blogs can be "blacklisted" on your dash? Similar to blacklisting tags... so basically, you'd blacklist a blog, and it would hide it in the same way. You could choose to reveal the posts by that blog when they're on your dash by clicking "show it anyway"?

The Blacklist extension already does this if you check the following options:

  • Check author blog titles and usernames for blacklisted words
  • Use improved checking

However, this does only work on a username basis, so it's not immune to URL changes.

hi there, love your work! but is there a way to disable the "not found" gif when you search an invalid url? if not, is there a way to code this? (and to add, disable gifs on blogs themselves) the "not found" gifs tend to hurt my eyes and give me migraines.

Hi! This is possible, but XKit isn't ideal for it since it loads kinda slowly. It's best to use adblocker filters for this so its effects prevent the gifs from loading at all.

These filters for uBlock Origin will remove the gifs from both the "Not Found" pages and the Safe Mode warning pages:

tumblr.com##div.fullscreen-background.visible
tumblr.com##div.blog-network.fill_container.center_wrap:style(background-image: none !important)

You can add these in the "My filters" tab of uBlock's options. The first line is all you need for the Not Found pages and is also AdBlock Plus compatible.

As for gifs on blogs, this can probably be added to our Disable Gifs extension at some point, so thanks for reminding us that we need to do that.

Hey 👋🏼 Does the mobile app belong to you too??...I love it but it's recently stopped working for me 😢

The mobile app was developed by the original XKit Guy, who abandoned XKit entirely in 2014. He never released the source code, so we can't do anything with it, sorry.

it seems like tumblr sadly removed the separator you could use in posts and i'm just wondering if there's anyway you could somehow add smth like that into xkit? thank u for all the work you do with xkit!

You can still create separators using the Markdown editor, though it takes some learning to use. However, support for separators is being completely dropped; you can see that on both the apps and mobile web, separators simply aren't displayed.

We can't trick the Tumblr API into supporting more than it can, so we can't really do anything here except say that it's worth writing into Tumblr support and telling them how much you miss separators.

I'm not able to use the xkit extension editor for some reason? Whenever I open it, the page will only show briefly and then redirect to tumblr's explore recommendations page.

This is a known issue caused by Tumblr's 404 pages all redirecting to /explore.

For now, you can work around this by preventing page redirection - if you're using Firefox, you can navigate to about:config and set accessibility.blockautorefresh to true. If you're on another browser, you'll probably have to find a redirect-blocking addon.

could you create a way for us to delete all messages at once? or at least like the mega editor, 50, 100 each time idk cause we have to delete messages one by one

Tumblr already has a "Delete all messages" button in the inbox - it works on the selected inbox too, meaning you can delete just one blog's messages or all messages across every blog you own/have admin for. If you can't see this button, make sure no userstyles have a rule for .delete_all_messages - XKit has no extensions or themes that hide it.

There's also XInbox's mega editor, which allows you to select multiple messages with one click each and then delete all selected messages (albeit slowly - XKit has to delete them one by one too).

Would it be possible to make something to stop embedded livestream posts (as in, video posts that are a youtube livestream) from sticking to the top of the dashboard? idk it's kinda minor but it's annoying

No Recommended gets rid of these along with suggested posts from searches you follow. Unfortunately, an option to hide pinned live posts without hiding other recommended posts is not yet available.

mod april new xkit reply i do wanna fix up no recommended a bit but im preoccupied with other things for now anonymous

Anonymous asked:

since tumblr labs has a tag viewer now, should we use that one? or is xkit's still better? is it safe to use both? also I'd love if you'd consider fixing the new square archive layout, so we could revert back to the old one where we could actually see what was in our archives. thanks for everything!

Tag Crawler is much more efficient than TagViewer since it's querying the post for reblog-tags on the server-side rather than the client. It's entirely safe to use both, but TagViewer is harder on your computer.

So far the only downside of Tag Crawler that we've heard mention of is it being unable to fetch really old tags, but we haven't tested this ourselves properly.

We have no plans for reverting the archive layout since the update that changed it isn't a mere style change, but an entire rewrite of how the archive works. On top of that, making variably-sized tiles fit together properly is fairly complicated, which is likely part of the reason it was removed.
